Administration
Mara McLeod, Principal
Dear San Elijo Elementary School Community,
It is with great excitement and a deep sense of gratitude that I introduce myself as the new principal of San Elijo Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. SEES has been my home for many years, and I am honored to step into this role and continue serving a community that means so much to me.
In the past, I have taught at SEES as a teacher and the last six and a half years as the assistant principal, I have had the privilege of growing alongside our students, staff, and families. During this time, I have seen firsthand what makes SEES so special. The strong sense of connection, the commitment to excellence, and the genuine care we show for one another is undeniable. This school has truly felt like home, and I am incredibly proud to continue this journey with all of you.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to work closely with Mr. Pope. His leadership and vision have shaped the culture and direction of our school in powerful ways. Being part of that work has provided me with a strong foundation, and I am committed to carrying that vision forward while continuing to help it grow and flourish.
As principal, my focus remains centered on supporting our exceptional teachers in delivering high-level instruction that promotes strong academic achievement for every student. At the same time, I believe deeply that learning thrives in an environment where students feel safe, valued, and connected. Fostering a culture of inclusion where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated will continue to be at the heart of our work.
Equally important is the sense of community that defines SEES. The feeling of family on our campus is something we will continue to nurture through meaningful, community-connected events and opportunities for families to engage and partner with us. Together, we will ensure that our school remains a place where relationships are strong and everyone feels they belong.
On a personal note, I live in Encinitas with my husband of 22 years and two daughters. During my free time, you will find me at the beach, walking my dog, eating at local restaurants, and traveling the world.
I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to continuing our shared work of supporting students, strengthening our community, and building on the traditions that make San Elijo Elementary School such a special place.
With appreciation and excitement for the year ahead,
Mara McLeod

Nicole Imoto, Assistant Principal
Dear San Elijo Community,
I am honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Assistant Principal. I have proudly served in the district for the past 24 years, including the last six years as an assistant principal. Throughout my career, I have been passionate about supporting students, collaborating with staff, and partnering with families to create positive and engaging learning environments.
I am thrilled to join such a highly regarded school community, and especially excited to work along Mara McLeod once again. We had the pleasure of teaching together earlier in our careers, and I look forward to building on that strong partnership in service of our students and families.
I believe that strong relationships are the foundation of a successful school. My goal is to build meaningful connections with students, staff, and families while helping ignite a lifelong spark for learning. Together, we will create opportunities for every student to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Personally, I live in Oceanside with my husband and our three kids. All three of them are very active in sports, so my hobbies include cheering them on every chance I get!
I look forward to getting to know each of you and becoming part of this wonderful community. Here’s to an exciting year ahead!
Nicole Imoto
